Jet Set Satellite Blueprint = 8.5
Blueprint is like a game of “who-does-that-sound-like” for real fans of alternative music. You’ll hear everything from Nine Inch Nails and Creed to Soundgarden and The Tea Party mixed into some of the songs rhythms and beats. Jet Set Satellite blueprint seems to be for diversity (from piano licks to techno beats) but nothing is actually ground breaking in any real way. But it is raw, intense, well crafted and one of the better discs you’ll hear by a male rock band.
The band creates a gothic wonderland of sounds and bass lines that takes on a certain Stabbing Westward feel on some tracks and then meanders back towards pure rock beats. While some songs, like the first release “Best Way To Die”, are hard and layered with deep bass lines a song like “Baby, Cool Your Jets” is a lot more blues oriented with its guitar licks.
The distinctly harsh style of Trevor Tuminski’s vocals and guitar is what really makes Jet Set Satellite a powerful group. He is never grating but he is always edgy enough to be a good escape from the Foo-Fighter-ish bands of the world. Blueprint keeps up a great momentum that peaks at just the right song before it draws you back down into another low groove. The honesty and eerie subtlety of the lyrics is a compelling reason to put the disc on repeat until you can really soak it all up. I probably ran it 4 or 5 times before I felt really satisfied. On a whole, that makes the album an easy listen that practically sweeps you along with every twist but it also shows the bands true talents. One thing is for sure, this is a blueprint for a lot of future success for a band that’s got everything planned out.
