~ Thee March 2008 Jet Setter Of The Month ~

The interweb, for all its privacy-jeopardizing, time (and sometimes soul) sucking trappings, can be a wild and wonderful place. It allows Jet Set's music to permeate all different parts of the world, illustrated no better than in the honorary Jet Setter prize for the month of March. Sonoko Yanagida - a hard rocker with a heart of gold from Tokyo, Japan - took it on her own accord to contact the band through their Myspace page and hook them up with some valuable magazine and record label contacts from her end of town. She seemed desperate to see the guys, as Tom Waits once said, become 'big in Japan' and, as you can imagine, that idea sits perfectly well with JSS too! Sonoko is the band's first known fan from Tokyo and the band is elated to award her with an autographed copy of 'End Of An Era', a t-shirt and some stickers for her efforts this month. The spirit of the street team knows no bounds - the music that has brought us all together has the potential to connect us from all points on the globe. Sonoko, we are so glad to meet you....it's good to know you're out there. In our newly-acquired Japanese, we wish you - Omedetou!
~ Thee February 2008 Jet Setter Of The Month ~

Being as we find ourselves on the eve of the end of an era, it seems appropriate to return to where we once started. Almost two years ago, we decided to make the JSS Street Team a bit more legitimate and put our money where our collective mouth was, so to speak. We announced we'd be giving away prizes every month, and the first person to bring themselves to our attention was none other than this month's Jet Setter Of The Month, the first-ever Jet Setter Of The Month back in the day, Charrone White a.k.a. Burntblack! We threw out the challenge of a new website called thesixtyone.com, where music lovers 'bump' their favorites up the charts. With Charrone's help, and the workmanlike dedication of many other JSS'ers, the band currently ranks #11 out of the top 1,000 bands of any genre and #5 out of the top 1,000 rock bands. THAT is what we're talking about! Charrone reported into Britt with her impressive '61 stats and we see fit to award her with a signed and numbered copy of the the new album, 'End Of An Era', just as soon as it is released, and a custom-made, leather wristband fashioned by none other than JSS drummer, Rich Reid, himself. You dedicate yourself to a cause and we are dedicated to you. Check out the Street Team section of the discussion board and the Special Operations page of this section for more information on how YOU can be the next Jet Setter of the Month!

A new year and our second, repeat winner of the illustrious Jet Setter of the Month award as we once again honor the efforts of Nicole Poklitar! Pictured here with official JSS Street Team Leader (and all-around good time) Brittany Nordman, Nicole took the coveted monthly prize last June, taking the stage with us at the Molson Super Spike to throw down on a version of "Best Way To Die" that was easily one of the highlights of the outdoor festival. This month, with our cover song trivia question bending brains across the globe, Nicole's lightning quick, setlist-snatching reflexes rocketed her to the pinnacle of a mere handful of winners who correctly identified at least five of the cover songs JSS has played live. Out of a possible nine answers, Nicole turned in seven - landing herself back in the winner's circle once more and ensuring she will have one of the first copies of Jet Set's third album, 'End Of An Era' as it comes off the presses, numbered and autographed by all five men behind the music. Congratulations Nicole! (also pictured: JSS rock steady Hailey Merritt (far right) and an unknown fan on the far left whose mind has clearly been blown by what she has just witnessed. Nicole's guitar pick earrings, of her own construct and Brittany's design, provided by www.jetsetsatellite.com)

- Our December 2007 Jet Setter Of The Month -

Anything in life worth doing is a gamble. You don't have to tell the guys in Jet Set Satellite that twice. Their second album isn't called Vegas for nothing, baby. And so when Mike Duncan rolled the dice and answered the call for a T-shirt design, the band could tell he was a junkie for their brand of action. The shirt design in question is viewable in the Street Team section of the discussion board and even though it isn't clear as to whether JSS is going to actually make it (the back of the t-shirt does not allow for traditional screenprinting), they still knew they had a winner. Since this is Mike's second time in the winner's circle and he politely declined when asked for a new photo, we have run the same picture twice, in tribute. Congratulations once more, Mike - you have nabbed yourself one of the first copies, fully autographed, of 'End of an Era' to come off the presses upon release and one of the 11x17 limited edition gig posters from the 2nd Annual Halloween Haunt, signed and numbered by Trevor and Ghoulish Gary's own wretched hand.
- Our November 2007 Jet Setter Of The Month -

Here at Jet Set Satellite, we're a proud and lively bunch around the holidays. With Christmas comes the opportunity to sip spiced elixirs by a roaring fire, sample the season's finest confections, and reflect on the year past and the increasing number of quality people we meet from being in a heavy, sexy, rock and roll band. This month, we honor Jet Setter Christie Surowich of Tyndall, MB! Splicing together classic images of Christmas with a rare snapshot of the fearsome five - taken on a brisk day in a dilapidated parking garage - she fashioned JSS with a fine, digital Christmas card to send out to our mailing list, spreading cheer wherever it may land. Here at JSS, we also know that the harsh Manitoba winter is a vile and despicable, wild animal - one nearly impossible to slay - but we hope our awarding Christie with an embroidered toque and hoodie will somehow make it more bearable. Thank you Christie and congratulations!

As has never happened around here, this month we also decided to honor Kathy Couch once more. It seems fitting that, only one year ago (scroll down), she and her husband, Jeff, were the winners of our JSS In Your House contest but, darn it all to hell, they just keep giving us reasons to shower them with gifts. Kathy painstakingly adapted the traditional "T'was The Night Before Christmas" verse with a rock show motif that knocked our stockings off, so we included it as the verse in OUR Christmas card. Now, she didn't really do this for this month's initiative - she just happens to be a nocturnal wordsmith with a penchant for unprovoked prose - but it was just too perfect for us to pass up. We're giving her an embroidered hoodie too, because we're just crazy like that, aaaaand Rink left the hoodie-making machine on again last night.
A Jet Set Satellite NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
T’was the night before Christmas, when all through the bar
Not an instrument was purring, not amp nor guitar;
The drums were set up, the guitars all in tune,
In hopes that the band would come to play soon;
The fans were lined up at the door, tix in hand,
All because Jet Set is their favorite band;
We stood in the cold, wearing toques and our mitts,
Despite Xmas eve, it’s their rock that we miss!
They open the doors, we flood to inside,
Where it’s warm, they have beer! We prepare for the ride.
The lights become dim, we move to the stage,
The better to see, to experience the rage!
We wait and anticipate, when is the show?
Don’t tell us the school bus is stuck in the snow!
Then suddenly, magically, they start to appear,
The boys take their places, amongst all their gear.
Rich with his drumsticks, his cymbals aglow,
Jay and Mike on guitars and the chords start to flow.
Bulldog stands ready at keyboards and drum,
Then Trevor comes on, the show has begun!
The set is fantastic, can’t list every song.
But they’re all so familiar, we all sing along!
They play songs from ‘Blueprint’, like ‘Best Way to Die’,
And many from ‘Vegas’ , we start to feel high!
‘Together’, ‘Remover’, ‘Please Capture Me’,
And even ‘Belonging’ and “I’m What You Need’.
The music is loud, our ears are abuzzing,
The bass is so strong that our chests are a-thumping!
We take in the sight, the sound and the smell,
We feel we’re in heaven, if just for awhile!
The songs we’ve been waiting for, start to be played,
They’re from ‘End of an Era’, and we’ve got it made!
We’ve been waiting for these, seems like forever,
But truth is, of course, never say never,
‘End of an Era’, we think we can’t wait,
For the brand new cd, though we don’t know the date.
Was 2007, then had to be changed,
Now 2008, that’s ok, we’re all game.
A video they tell us, is now in the works,
Should be a killer, with quite deadly quirks!
Savor the moment, that’s all we can do,
For now, at this show, it just has to do.
The band leaves the stage, the lights still aren’t on,
So we clap and we shout and still carry on!
Our thunderous applause and pounding on floor,
The racket and noise, well, they just can’t ignore.
Back they all come, for a couple more tunes,
A favorite, a cover, and then something new.
At last it is over, time to go home,
We gather our coats and our merch and our phones.
We take with us memories of rock and of fun.
There’s nothing else like it, I tell you, bar none!
So thank you, Jet Set, for the rock and the roll,
the times with our friends, you are good for our soul!
They yell to their fans, just before they are gone,
“Happy Holidays to all, and to all, rock on!”
Jet Setter Of The Month - October

On the eve of the 2nd Annual Halloween Haunt, we are proud to announce this month's Jet Setter of the Month to be Steve Couch! Known for his devastating bowling arm at the last tourney (he took one of the top trophies), Steve is often spotted in the front row of live shows and stepped up to hand out Halloween Haunt flyers outside the MTS Centre the other night, even though glorious downtown Winnipeg at that hour is overrun with toothless hobos and ne'er-do-wells. A man of few words but he's there when the chips are down and damnit, we like the cut of his jib. Steve - you've scored yourself a pair of passes to the Halloween Haunt and a limited edition, numbered Halloween Haunt gig poster signed by the artist, Gary Pullin, and the band. Unlike yourself, it's not quite one of a kind, but there will only be 100 of these such posters made available. See you at the show!
Jet Setter Of The Month - September!

Ah, fall. Probably the most influential season on JSS' music. Crops burning in the distance, kicking through the coloured leaves on another cool, depresso day, listening to sad music for no reason in your favorite sweater...you gotta love it. Yup, it's the September Jet Setter of the Month Award and this month, we hand it off to Bonnie Seidel! For her constant live show presence, contribution of mix CDs to the band's touring music collection and for keeping Trev company during his many trips to and from the Winnipeg International Airport, we're hookin' Bonnie up with a brand-new JSS logo embroidered hoodie and a pair of JSS guitar pick earrings. It was gonna be a shirt, but hey...it's fall. We want a chance to be your favorite sweater!
Jet Setter Of The Month - August

Summer is the best season to be on rock radio, and this month, we herald Wade a.k.a. Quacka on the JSS Discussion Board, for his incessant requesting to rock stalwart, The Bear in Edmonton, to bring Jet Set to the masses. Risking life and limb to even harrass his boss into joining the cause, Wade has been an active participant in the good fight for as long as we can remember. Thanks for planting a flag in E-Town, Wade...nothing says 'black summer' like one of our new, End of an Era chrome logo shirts and an embroidered, fitted cap. Please tell us you took that burger down!
Jet Setter Of The Month - July!

The street team has been doling out prizes for more than a year now, recognizing the hard work and dedication put forth by our fans to keep the JSS engine running comfortably in the red. This month, we'd like to honor Derek Campbell of Winnipeg, MB! Derek has taken in many shows, pestered radio announcers to spin JSS regularly, captured live video a few times which he's posted on Youtube and his Facebook page, and flown the flag high - regularly being spotted in the Old Skool Jets-logo shirt around town. More than that though, his aim is true and his blood, thick with the kind of rock dedication we so appreciate around here. Congratulations Derek - you've won a prototype embroidered hoodie and cap, so even if you're going incognito, people will know where your loyalties lie.
Jet Setter Of The Month - June!

For the month of June, the boys in black celebrate Nicole Poklitar's induction into the historic annals of JSS fandom! For helping to design our famous guitar-pick earrings (see Merch section), taking part in all of the JSS-related events she can (including travelling to various shows throughout the Canadian prairies) and just generally being an enthusiastic presence at live shows, Nicole has won herself 2 tickets to the Molson Super Spike, Saturday, July 21st at Maple Grove Rugby Park! The guys will play alongside Thornley and The Waking Eyes, while Nicole will sing alongside JSS - joining them onstage for their final song of the night! Congratulations Nicole - for at least one night, you can *truly* say, "I'm with the band".
Jet Setter Of The Month - May!

Sometimes with the JSS Street Team initiative, we rely on you guys to take initiative and that's exactly what Mike Duncan of Pitt Meadows, B.C. did to win himself the illustrious title of Jet Setter Of The Month Of May. Downloading and printing out some digital posters we supplied in the Street Team section of the Discussion Board, Mike plastered his school with the good word on JSS and scored himself a sweet t-shirt and toque prize pack with the new logo on them. Thanks so much, Mike - it's fans like you that keep the engine on the Vegas album cover running!
Jet Setter Of The Month - April!

Inside the JSS camp, the reasons for this month's honoured fan are definitely no mystery! Cathie a.k.a. PunkRawkGirl has been a fixture at shows, often selling merch and postering, flaunting the music to anyone who'll listen and lovingly adorning herself in a JSS t-shirt more often than not. Her enthusiasm for what we do is mighty contagious and she can usually be spotted in front of the stage, singing along to every word. For her loyalty and dedication to the rock and roll cause, she has won herself lifetime admission for her and a friend to every JSS-related function, anytime, anywhere and one of the ultra-rare U.S. Vegas singles about to be released. Cathie, from here on out, you're on the guestlist...permanently!
Jet Setter Of The Month - March!

This month, we honour long-time JSS fan Steve Webber of Brandon, Manitoba as our Jet Setter Of The Month! For his superior postering prowess, harrassment of local radio types and some fantastic stickers with the new JSS logo on them, he wins himself one of the band's new 8x10s, signed by all the members, and a mysterious CD prize package of JSS rarities! He already owned every design of t-shirt we make so we had to get creative. Congratulations and thanks for spreading the word, Steve!
End Of An Era Photo Contest Winner!

Congratulations to Andrea Ardiles, winner of the JSS 'End Of An Era' photo contest! To see her winning shot, head over to the Street Team section of the discussion board. We had lots of great entries but her winning picture encapsulated a mood that really caught the band's collective eye. For her efforts, she wins a limited edition collection of live JSS prints, signed by each band member and an embroidered toque!
Jet Setter Of The Month - December

The winner for the month of December is Brittany Nordman, our very own JSS Street Team Leader. Now, we realize some people might think she should be ineligible for such a prize (herself included) but the band says otherwise. So there. ;)
She volunteered for the position six months ago and has helped us come up with ideas for initiatives and generally manage the street team when Trev runs out of time or simply forgets to attend to things. She's a huge presence at live shows (taking pictures, handing out candy at the Halloween Haunt, selling merch...) and was instrumental in pulling off the JSS In Your House so it is our pleasure to reward her with one of our fabulous JSS hoodies and also a prototype embroidered toque with our new logo (designed by Rich Reid) emblazoned on the front. Congratulations and thank you to the girl we now refer to simply as Britt-Rock!
Jet Setter Of The Month - November

Kathy and her husband Jeff are two solid JSS fans who've made it out to many shows, proudly sport band apparel around town and have even turned alot of their friends onto the band.
Their winning entry encompassed most of the month of November as they took the opportunity to heighten the band's profile however they saw fit. When we played the Grey Cup pre-game show, they contacted the CBC and CTV about our performance and told them to get their cameras over there! Once at the game, they also 'applied home-made JSS stickers to many individuals'...we're thinking this translated into an army of walking, drunken billboards and really, is there any better advertising?
Well, yeah there is...how about a 20x30 banner saying 'Go to JETSETSATELLITE.com' hanging on the banks of the Red River? Yup, they did that too and made sure to contact Power 97 so a couple of the announcers would talk about it on-air.
Finally, they made a suggestion for a JSS beer can coozy to be available through the merch section and sourced out where we could get that done, what we'd need and how much.
For all of these reasons, Kathy and Jeff, we thank you and will be joining you on December 22nd to play songs from our albums 'Blueprint' and 'Vegas', as well as a sneak preview of material from our third album, 'End Of An Era', for you and your guests, live and IN YOUR HOUSE!
Thank you to everyone who entered, it was a great contest and an example of the exciting initiatives we hope to keep introducing
with the JSS Street Team every month!
Jet Setter Of The Month - October

For unprecedented dedication to 'the cause', this month we salute Pam a.k.a. Kissycougar. We first met her at the Powerball show a couple years back at the MTS Centre and ever since, she's been a fixture at live shows and on the message board here at www.jetsetsatellite.com. Proudly sporting two JSS-related tattoos and a custom JSS windshield decal on her car, we're hoping to keep Pam warm this winter with one of our beautiful JSS Skull/Roses hoodies and a pair of guitar pick earrings! Thanks Pam and see you at the next show!
Jet Setter Of The Month - September
Robyn Shesterniak, COME ON DOWN! For the diligent uploading of JSS MP3s to music sites across the vast landscape of the interweb this month, you are hereby rewarded with 2 tickets to the Jet Set Satellite Halloween Haunt, 2 backstage passes so you and a friend can fraternize with mysterious rockstar types and a pair of lovely guitar pick earrings! Thank you so much and we hope you're tweaking your Halloween costume...you have to look good (or at least ghoulish) when you're the guest of honour!
Jet Setter of the Month - August
This month, we salute Shawne! For incessant hassling of radio types and just generally spreading the good word about JSS, she too has won a prototype Jet Set Satellite hoodie and a pair of black and silver Jet Set Satellite guitar pick earrings. See below for more information on how you too can win cool accessories before they're even available to the public. Fly the flag, learn the handshake, drink the Kool-Aid...join the merry band of JSS Jet Setters!
Jet Setter of the Month - July
Once a month, Jet Set Satellite recognizes one fan for their outstanding contribution and sacrifice in the war on rock 'n' roll, for fighting the good
fight to help the band achieve their goal of world domination by way of heavy riffs and pounding beats. This month, we salute Charrone a.k.a. Burntblack.
For her efforts, she got a prototype Jet Set Satellite hoodie and a pair of black and silver Jet Set Satellite guitar pick earrings.
If you would like to win awesome prizes, start requesting the band's music on your local radio station or be creative with your street teaming action,
then report to Brittany at jss-streetteam@hotmail.com with what you've been up to! Even if you're not doing it for the prizes, and just to help JSS,
even setting an example and sharing your ideas would be great (but really, who wouldn't want the prizes? Wink).
No matter how much or how little you're doing, report back to me! Everything you do is very much appreciated!
